Elementary Curriculum

Select a curriculum level:

Kindergarten is a full day program that cultivates developmental and academic skills. There is a balance of classroom activities which further social, emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual growth. The curriculum encourages a learning environment with children interacting with each other while participating in hands-on, interactive learning. Each Kindergarten has a Promethean Inter-Active Board to provide opportunities to learn through technology. Learning Centers, including one-on-one teacher time, involve reading and math instruction. Students learn basic sight words, vowels and phonics rules to encourage their emerging reading development. There are supplemental books for students to read at home. Math introduces number sense, addition and subtraction with manipulatives, coin recognition and value, non-standard and standard units of measure, telling time and counting. Inquiry-based learning offers students the opportunity to observe and explore as experiences with Science and Social Studies are taught through thematic units. Kindergarten classes participate in chapel daily. In addition to chapel, students have Bible class and integrate biblical teachings in all curriculum areas. The students have opportunities for physical activity and music instruction. There is a Library time each week to provide the students a story-time and to allow them to checkout a book from the Library. Kindergarten classes are a self-contained classroom, with lunch served in the Cafeteria and scheduled recesses on the playground.

Special Events are scheduled throughout the year which include theatrical presentations, field days, author visits, guest readers, field trips and various other programs. All elementary students participate in an annual music program which is presented for parents, families, and friends.

The small class size helps students develop positive relationships with their teachers and classmates. Hours are 8:00 a.m. (earliest morning drop-off time is 7:30 a.m.) to 3:00 p.m. with an after-school program available. A folder is sent home each evening to be returned the next morning and emails between the teacher and parents are a regular and important avenue of communication.
