Elementary Art:
The elementary art experience is designed to expose students to a variety of art techniques, for the purpose of experimentation and self expression. There is an introduction to perspective and the design elements and principles. Students will experience drawing, painting, and printmaking as well as sculpture. All lessons are geared to challenge and enhance God given talents.
Elementary Theater:
Missoula Children's Theatre -- Oklahoma Christian Academy has the privilege to participate in the Missoula Children’s Theatre. This organization is located in Montana and travels the United States teaching children about cooperation and team work through the art of acting. In March 2005, the Missoula team came to OCA for the first time involving more than 70 students in the production of “Pinocchio.” This year the production will be “King Arthur’s Quest.” Under the guidance of the Missoula team, the students are responsible for the costuming, make-up, lights, sound and advertisement.
Elementary Christmas Play:
Our annual Christmas play is always a big hit with the children and especially with parents and grandparents. This past year we had three separate performances. PreK-4 and First grade depicted the nativity story while performing several songs. Second through Fifth grade performed the play "Santa in Oz" written and directed by our own staff, Jonathan McElroy and Teri McElroy. The Sixth grade class performed the play, "He's Going to do What?".
Middle School Art:
Middle school art is designed to expose students to a variety of media and techniques. Emphasis is given to perspective and the design elements and principles. Students will experience drawing, painting, and printmaking as well as sculpture.
Middle School Theater:
The Middle School students are offered several opportunities to participate in a performing arts production. The Christmas program, Talent Show and the Musical are three such opportunities. Middle School students are in a Performing Arts class for two semesters. The class was created with the goal to enhance and expose students to various arts, including musical, performing, and culinary interpretation.
High School Art:
High School art includes a general overview of art concepts and some art history, as well as a variety of studio experiences. Learning basic techniques, design elements and art principles are stressed. AP Studio Art is available to students you express deep interest in furthering their talents.
High School Theater:
The OCA Theatre Department is an excellent place for students to learn about the Theatre Arts. The professionalism and attention to student strengths is the perfect place to develop theatrical skills whether wanting to pursue acting as a career or just having fun and instilling more confidence. OCA's safe environment is the perfect place to get started if new to theatre. If you want to pursue Theatre as a career, Jonathan McElroy's ten years of experience as a working actor can help you achieve these goals. The OCA Theatre Department strives to produce professional, cutting edge works while always keeping Christ as our number one priority.
High School Choir:
This choir is primarily a performance group, and time will be required during the school year for performances. Students will learn sight reading and healthy vocal technique. Students in choir may be required to learn to sing in different languages and styles. Due to the out of school performance time, students participating in choir should be in good academic standing and display a positive attitude toward music and performing.
High School Speech:
Speech class is designed to help students develop a broad spectrum of communication skills to include face-to-face presentations, electronic communications, and multimedia based communications. Face-to-face communications will include learning to write and present a process speech, expository speech, persuasive speech, and oratory.
High School Competitive Public Speaking:
The purpose of this course is to develop and enhance verbal organizational, research and critical thinking skills, as well as self-confidence through the preparation and presentation of speeches within the classroom. Students will learn the fundamentals and participate in Lincoln Douglas Debate, make informative and persuasive speeches and write and deliver original oratories on topics of personal and public interest. All students will be required to participate in at least 2 Speech and Drama tournaments throughout the year.
High School Digital Photography:
This course can be considered an art or technology course. Students practice taking digital photographs and improving and printing the photos with electronic software. Group critiques enable students to think and talk about photography with an eye to self-improvement. Outstanding photographs may be used in the yearbook and entered in competitions. A digital camera is required for the course.
High School Film:
This course is the study of motion pictures with emphasis on the role of the director in shaping the film. Video production is introduced and created as a class project.
